CabNorth Privacy Policy

Last updated July 19, 2026. This is a plain-language outline of our data practices, written to align with Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA). Have an Ontario lawyer review before public commercial launch.

1. What we collect

Riders: name, phone number, pickup/drop-off addresses, trip history, and payment details (handled directly by Stripe — CabNorth never stores your card number).

Drivers: name, date of birth, address, phone, driver's licence number and photo, police information check / background check documents, vehicle safety certificate, vehicle and insurance details, and earnings history.

2. Why we collect it

To match riders with drivers, calculate fares, process payments, verify driver eligibility to operate a vehicle for hire, meet safety and legal obligations, provide customer support, and improve the service. We do not sell personal information.

3. Who we share it with

We use service providers to operate CabNorth, each of whom only receives what they need to do their job:

  • Stripe — payment processing (card details go directly to Stripe, not through our servers).
  • Twilio — SMS verification codes and masked calling/messaging between riders and drivers.
  • OpenAI — reads driver licence photos to help verify identity fields at signup.
  • OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) and OSRM — turn addresses into map coordinates and driving routes.
  • Vercel and Upstash — hosting and database infrastructure that stores the data above.

We disclose personal information to police or regulators only where required by law, or to protect the safety of riders, drivers, or the public.

4. How long we keep it

We keep trip and account records for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after, to meet accounting, tax, insurance, and legal obligations. Driver eligibility documents (licence, background check, safety certificate) are kept for the duration you're approved to drive plus a retention period required by applicable regulations.

5. Your rights

Under PIPEDA, you can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it's inaccurate, and withdraw consent for optional uses (subject to legal or contractual limits — for example, a driver can't withdraw consent to background checks and remain an active driver). Contact us using the details below to make a request.

6. Security

Data is stored with encrypted connections in transit, access to admin tools is password-protected, and payment card data is handled entirely by Stripe rather than passing through our systems. No system is perfectly secure; we work to keep collection limited to what's actually needed.

7. Contact

Questions or requests about your personal information: use the contact details published on cabnorth.ca.
